Block.IS organises 2 Innovation Challenges for the European community of entrepreneurs. Up to eight (8) SMEs will be selected to participate at each Challenge. The top 3 SMEs on each challenge will receive 1.000€ to attend the Block.IS Final event where they will showcase their proposals. The top solution for each challenge will receive additional funding of 12,000€.

Theme

The Secondhand market is an important partner in the circular business model and is growing both online and physical.

The challenge is to:

• Assess if and how the data and technology can help them play a stronger role and boost the ecosystem needed to bring the fashion industry to a more sustainable future
• Showcase if blockchain help verify and empower their business model with a stronger revenue stream and a scalable – as the problems often is that there are one-offs that are not documented, which makes the logistics difficult and impossible to match consumers with the right products.

In the end, educating and supporting the fashion consumers in making a more sustainable choice.

Tourism destinations around the world constantly are competing to find new innovative products to attract tourists to their region. Yet another starting point to improve a region´s touristic appeal is to create an easy, transparent and efficient way of payment that bundles the various services used by the tourists during their stay. The concept of having to pay for every service separately, often even in cash, is outdated and needs to be replaced by a coherent digital concept. The challenge is to use blockchain technology to create a secure environment regarding payment & services within a tourism destination.

The European Commission launched Women TechEU – a new EU scheme supporting deep-tech start-ups led by women and helping them grow into tomorrow’s deep tech champions! This scheme comes under the new Horizon Europe innovation ecosystems programme, reinforced by the European Innovation Council (EICs).

Up to 50 promising deep tech start-ups from EU Member States and Associated Countries will be funded under the first Women TechEU pilot call.

Financed activities

Activities such as upgrading the business model, updating the business plan and growth strategy, finding partners and investors, market validation, etc.

Calling for

Highly innovative start-ups founded, or co-founded by women, holding a top management position (CEO, CTO or equivalent) in the company at the time of submission. The company must be registered and established in an EU Member State or a Horizon Europe Associated Country for at least six months at the time of the submission.

The EIC Accelerator Challenges supports companies (principally start-ups and SMEs) to scale up high impact innovations with the potential to create new markets or disrupt existing ones in identified areas of strategic relevance.

Financed activities

Activities supported could include, for instance, product/service development, trials, optimisation, prototyping, validation, demonstration and testing in real world conditions and market replication. Essential actions for the innovation project can be subcontracted.

Calling for

Projects which support the Green Deal implementation by significantly contributing to at least one of the following sustainability goals:

• Increasing the EU’s climate mitigation and/or adaptation ambition;
• Supplying clean, affordable and secure energy;
• Transitioning of industry to a clean and/or circular economy (including waste prevention and/or recycling);
• Building and renovating in an energy and resource efficient way;
• Accelerating the shift to sustainable and smart mobility;
• Transition to a fair, healthy and environmentally-friendly food system;
• Preserving and restoring ecosystems and biodiversity (including nature based solutions that provide co-benefits for climate adaptation and mitigation);
• Realising a zero pollution ambition and a toxic-free environment.

• Digital technologies: devices, methods, systems as well as working principles, processes and standards which apply to the ICT technology industry such as advanced high performance computing, edge computing, quantum technologies, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, block-chain, cloud infrastructure technologies and technologies for the Internet of Things.
• Healthcare technologies: AI-driven tools for early diagnosis; point-of-care diagnostics; novel approaches in cell and gene therapy, in particular for cancer; development of novel biomarkers for clinical prognosis, patient stratification or monitoring purposes across a wide spectrum of disorders; bioprocessing 4.0 (digitalisation across stages of biodevelopment in biotech/biopharma industry); healthcare intelligence services; and e-health (including mobile health) solutions for healthcare systems, medical practice and Intensive Care Units.

Market deployment and scaling up as well as eligible costs incurred for innovation activities, including demonstration of the technology in the relevant environment, prototyping and system level demonstration, R&D and testing required to meet regulatory and standardisation requirements, intellectual property management, and marketing approval.

Eurostars is a funding programme that supports innovative SMEs and project partners (large companies, universities or research organisations) by funding international collaborative R&D and innovation projects. By participating, organisations from 37 countries can access public funding for international collaborative R&D projects in all fields. *Lithuanian funding body, Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology (MITA), funds R&D costs for SMEs participating in our Eurostars programme.

S4Fashion is seeking innovative collaborative projects aiming to pilot novel processes to create a product, service or business model with scale-up potential for sustainable or circular fashion through an open call for proposals. The purpose of the call for proposals is to select and provide funding and support to 25 transnational partnerships that aim at creating a new innovative product or service directly improving the take-up and adoption of sustainability and circularity models and practices in the fashion sectors.  

The selected partnerships will receive direct funding of up to EUR 15.000 for their innovative projects and will also benefit from additional business support services such as training workshops, mentoring, brokerage events, and investment fora to ensure the innovative projects develop into a marketable product, service or business model.
